Your On-Demand Fuel Delivery Solution

Role / Service
  • User Research, User Experience & UI Development

  • Overview...

FuelUp is a fuel delivery service app designed to provide a convenient and time-efficient solution for refueling vehicles. The app caters to both individual users and fleet managers, allowing them to schedule instant or reserved fuel deliveries directly to their desired locations. With an emphasis on transparency, ease of use, and security, FuelUp offers a user-friendly interface and multiple customization options, meeting the needs of diverse users.

    Empathise & Define Stage...

    Understading user needs

    Research Methods:

    • Surveys: Conducted online surveys with over 100 participants to understand their current fueling habits, frequency, and the challenges they face.
    • Interviews: One-on-one interviews with 15 users, including daily commuters, corporate fleet managers, logistics operators, and environmentally conscious drivers.
    • User Observation: Observed 8 users in real-life refueling scenarios at different times of the day to gain insights into their experiences, frustrations, and expectations.

    Pain Points:

    • Time Consumption: Time spent waiting at gas stations, finding parking, and dealing with fuel attendants.
    • Unpredictable Costs: Variable fuel prices and hidden fees that cause budget planning difficulties.
    • Lack of Personalization: Current services do not offer personalized fuel delivery schedules or options.
    • Insecurity: Concerns over sharing personal and financial information online.
    • Limited Availability: Inadequate access to alternative fuel options, such as special petrol for high-performance cars or electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

    Key Findings:

    • Inconvenience at Gas Stations: Many users cited long queues, busy schedules, and the hassle of finding a nearby gas station as major pain points. This was especially true during peak hours or in bad weather conditions.
    • Lack of Flexibility: Users expressed the need for both instant fuel delivery and scheduled deliveries to accommodate their unique routines and avoid the unpredictability of gas stations.
    • Need for Transparency: Many participants highlighted the lack of transparency in pricing at gas stations, with fluctuating prices and additional fees. There was a strong desire for upfront pricing.
    • Desire for Personalization: Users wanted an app that could remember their preferences, such as favorite fuel types, frequently used locations, and vehicles.
    • Safety and Security: Concerns were raised about the security of online payments and the safety of sharing personal information through a mobile app.

    Problem Statement:

Users are struggling with the inconvenience of traditional refueling methods due to long wait times, lack of flexibility, unpredictable costs, and limited personalization. They need a seamless, reliable, and secure fuel delivery service that offers instant and scheduled delivery options, clear pricing, and a user-friendly experience.

    Prototyping...

    Bringing Values to the User
In the prototyping phase, we transformed our initial concepts and wireframes into interactive prototypes to visualize the user journey and test the app's core functionalities. We created both low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototypes to refine the design and gather feedback at various stages. The low-fidelity prototype helped us map out the basic structure and user flow, ensuring the main features—like instant and reserve fuel delivery—were easy to navigate and understand.

With the high-fidelity prototype, we incorporated the final visual elements, including the chosen color palette, typography, and iconography, to create a polished, realistic representation of the app. This version was used for user testing sessions, allowing us to validate the design choices, fine-tune the user experience, and make necessary adjustments before moving to the development stage. The prototypes were iteratively updated based on user feedback to align with the needs and expectations of our target audience, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience from the first tap to the final delivery confirmation.

    Feedback and Iterations

    Added Reserve Booking Option:
Initially, FuelUp only allowed instant booking, which meant users could only request immediate fuel delivery. This limited flexibility led to frustration among users who wanted to plan their fuel needs ahead of time. In response to this feedback, we introduced the Reserve Booking option, allowing users to schedule deliveries in advance at their preferred date and time, thereby solving the problem of inflexibility and enhancing overall user satisfaction.
    Introduced Subscription Plans:
The app originally featured just three pages: Home, Services, and Profile. Without a subscription model, users felt there was little incentive for regular use, and many were looking for ways to save on frequent deliveries. To address this, we added a dedicated Subscription page offering monthly plans and bulk fuel packages at discounted rates. This addition solved the problem by providing cost-saving options, encouraging repeat use, and boosting customer loyalty.

    High - Fidelity Prototyping

produced Final Hi-Fi Prototypes variation for testing.

    Reflection...

    Outcome
The development of FuelUp successfully addressed key user needs by providing a convenient and reliable way to refuel vehicles without visiting a gas station. With features like instant and reserve delivery options, upfront pricing, secure online payments, and personalized subscriptions, the app offers a comprehensive solution that resonates well with users seeking flexibility and transparency. Feedback from beta testers and early adopters has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting satisfaction with the app’s intuitive design, ease of use, and the added convenience of doorstep fuel delivery. This strong user response positions FuelUp as a promising player in the evolving on-demand service market.

    Conclusion
FuelUp has established a solid foundation by reimagining the traditional refueling experience through a user-centered design approach. By listening to user feedback and iteratively refining the app’s features and functionality, we have created a product that not only meets the immediate needs of our target audience but also sets a new standard for convenience and accessibility in fuel delivery. The app's success in its initial launch phase demonstrates the potential for continued growth and expansion into new markets. Our commitment to enhancing usability, building trust, and delivering value has set us on a path toward becoming the go-to solution for modern-day refueling.

    Next Steps
Moving forward, FuelUp will focus on expanding its reach and enhancing the app’s offerings. Plan to launch in additional cities, catering to both individual users and fleet operators, while also incorporating more sustainable fuel options to appeal to eco-conscious customers. Aim to introduce new features, such as a booking modification tool and additional payment methods, to further enhance the user experience. Regular updates, continuous user feedback integration, and strategic partnerships will be key to driving adoption and loyalty. With these steps, FuelUp will continue to innovate and adapt, ensuring we meet the ever-evolving needs of our users while expanding our market presence.
